Coach Nelo Lui moved to the United States in 1994 and married in 1997. From 1998 to 2002, He accumulated 21 international caps as a member of the USA National 7's team after competing across the world in New Zealand, Australia, France, Hong Kong, Chile, and Dubai (just to name a few). Following his international career, Coach  Lui was a member of  the San Diego OMBAC, Riverside Killer Bees, and Tempe Old Devils 7's and 15's teams where he won 1 National Club 15's trophy and 6 total National Club 7's trophies. In addition, he also won a Men's Division III National Championship as a player and coach for the Reno Zephyers Men's Rugby Club. Coach Lui is currently in his 6th Year as Head Coach of the UNR Men's Rugby Club.

Coach Nelo Lui's passion for the game translates into everything he does in life. As a men's club unaffiliated with the college athletics department at UNR, the coaching role that he fulfills his strictly a volunteer position. Regardless of that, Lui continues to devote his time to the club because he enjoys working with these young men, sharing his experience and talent, teaching them the discipline and skills essential to a rugby player, and hopefully instilling a lifelong love for the game of rugby. 

Coach Lui lives in Sun Valley, NV with his wife and 5 children.

Makakoloa Pateta

Coach Maka has played competitive rugby for over 30+ years. Beginning in his native Tonga, Maka played High School Rugby from 1977-1983, was a member of the Tonga U19 National Team in 1983, and competed in Division 1 Club Rugby from 1982-1989. After moving to the United States in 1990, Maka played for multiple clubs that included the Sacramento Capitols (1990-1992), the Hawaii Harlequins (1993-1995), the Hayward Griffins and San Mateo RFC (1996-1998), and finally for the Reno Zephyrs (1999-2011). Maka has been the Backline Coach for Nevada Rugby since 2014.

Coach Chinowsky is originally from Berkley, moved to Chicago, then Tahoe City, and finally called Reno home since 1999. He spent some time in Hawaii and New Zealand as well. Chinowsky began training athletes in 1991 through martial arts then sports specific strength and conditioning for snow sports. He ran his own facility from 1991 thru 2007 in Tahoe then transitioned to Reno. He believes in training athletes as a whole. Including mental, physical, nutritional, and emotional. Coach Chinowksy is a search and rescue incident management team volunteer for the Washoe County Sheriff's office.

Coach Chinowsky lives in Reno and has 3 kids.
